To Ecuador and to the Amazon

The road from Pedro Ruiz goes west for 65 km to Bagua Grande, at first through a narrow gorge, the ridges covered with lush cloudforest, then along the broad and fertile lower Utcubamba Valley. It then crosses the Marañón at Corral Quemado. From the confluence of the Marañón with the Río Chamaya, the road follows the latter, past bare cliffs covered by dry scrub, towering over the deep river canyons.
