Getting there

Airport information

All international flights arrive at Jorge Chávez Airport, The aduana (customs) process is relatively painless and efficient (a push-button, red light/green light system operates for customs baggage checks). Once outside and past the gate separating arriving passengers from the general public, you're subject to the mob of taxi drivers all vying to offer you their services. Fares depend on where you pick up the taxi and your bargaining skills. Jorge Chávez airport has all the facilities one would expect at an international airport.

There is a US$30.25 departure tax for international flights that is never included in the price of your ticket. It may be paid in dollars or soles. For national flights the airport tax is US$7, payable only in soles or dollars. When making a domestic connection in Lima, you are not required to pay airport tax. Contact airline personnel at baggage claim and they will escort you to your departure gate. Tickets purchased in Peru also have the 19% state tax, but this will be included in the price of the ticket.

Reconfirming flights

It is very important to reconfirm your flights when flying internally in Peru or leaving the country (although practice varies with some international carriers). This is generally done 48-72 hours in advance and can be done by phoning or visiting the airline office directly or, sometimes, by going to a travel agent for which you may have to pay a service charge. If you do not reconfirm your internal or international flight, you may not get on the plane.
