To Iberia and Iñapari

Daily public transport runs on the road that begins across the Río Madre de Dios and runs to Iberia and Iñapari on the border with Brazil. Take one of the frequent ferries that crosses from Puerto Maldonado (a bridge is being built). Until the paving of this section of the Interoceánica is complete, there may be delays, especially in the wet season and particularly between Iberia and Iñapari. In the dry, though, it is a fast road and dangerous for motorcyclists because of passing traffic. Along the road there remains no primary forest, only secondary growth and small chacras (farms). There are also picturesque caseríos (settlements) that serve as collecting and processing centres for the Brazil nut industry. Approximately 70% of the inhabitants in the Madre de Dios are involved in the collection of the prized nut.

Iberia
, at Km 168, has accommodation. Just outside the town the local rubber tappers' association has set up a reserve with an information centre and a swimming pool.
Iñapari
, at the end of the road and the border with Brazil , Km 235, has two accommodation options, but
Assis Brasil
across the border is more attractive.
