Itineraries

Most people arrive in Panama overland from Costa Rica and head straight for
Bocas del Toro
- it's chilled, relaxed and there's a lot going on. From there it's a long haul to
Panama City
. You can break the journey, with a rather circuitous detour stopping off at Davíd for a trip into the mountains at Boquete for great trekking, white- water rafting and exploring. When you get to Panama City, it's a short trip to see or to travel the
Panama Canal
is essential. From
Colón
on the Caribbean it's a short trip out to the
San Blas Islands
. A couple of weeks should cover the main areas. If you're heading to South America, you can improvise a journey working along the coast to
Puerto Obaldía
or catch a boat to Cartagena from Colón. The overland journey through the
Darién Gap
is not to be undertaken lightly. If in any doubt, fly.
