Villahermosa and around

Once mostly a domestic tourist destination, Villahermosa and the surrounding area have been gaining in popularity with foreign visitors in recent years. It can be fiendishly hot during parts of the year, particularly April and May, but this verdant part of Mexico is well worth a visit for the fabulous La Venta archaeological park, featuring giant Olmec heads, in the state capital Villahermosa. New adventure and eco-tourism routes are also opening up.
