The best articles are those made of wood. Straw items are also highly recommended. Leather is cheaper than in El Salvador and Nicaragua. As a single stopping point, the region around Santa Bárbara is one of the best places, with outlets selling handicrafts from nearby villages. Alternatively you can explore the villages yourself and see the goods being made. Coffee is OK, but not great. Sales tax is 12%; 15% on alcohol and tobacco.
