The tourist institute INGUAT publishes a list of maximum prices for single, double and triple occupancy of hundreds of hotels throughout the country in all price ranges, though the list is thin at the budget end. They will deal with complaints about overcharging if you can produce bills or other proof. Room rates should be posted in all registered hotels. Ask if taxes (
) are included when you are given the room rate. INGUAT tax is 10% and service charge is usually an additional 12%. Busiest seasons are Easter, December and July to August. Most budget hotels do not supply toilet paper, soap or towels. There are no official campsites in Guatemala.
