Manta to Pedernales

The province of Manabí has many different faces. Manta is a bustling city, an important fishing and cargo port. North along the coast are countless seaside villages, some half-forgotten, others popular beach destinations. The largest resort area is around Bahía de Caráquez, which has dubbed itself an eco-city. Just beyond Bahía, on the other side of the Río Chone estuary, is the seaside town of Canoa, popular with foreign and Ecuadorean bathers alike. Northward still, to Pedernales and Cojimies, the coast is less developed for tourism. The country inland is even less visited, with Montubio villages amid the dry hills offering ample scope for exploration.
