Quito to Latacunga

South of Quito is a rich cattle ranching area, the home of the chagra, Ecuador's cowboy. Several haciendas offer lodging for visitors who are interested in experiencing farm life. It is a very scenic area dotted with volcanic peaks, well suited to walking and horse riding. Those aiming higher can experience the thrill of climbing one of the peaks of Ilinizas, Rumiñahui or the perfect cone of Cotopaxi.
