Around Havana

Several places of interest on the outskirts of Havana and in the Province of Havana can easily be reached as a day trip from the capital, with the option of staying a night or two if you wish. Readers of Ernest Hemingway novels will be fascinated to see his former home, now a museum dedicated to his memory, just as he left it, or Cojímar, the setting for his novel The Old and the Sea. Alternatively you can base yourself on the beach and come in to Havana for sightseeing. The best beaches are east of Havana, at Playas del Este, an easy cycle ride or taxi from the city, or further afield at Jibacoa where you can explore the countryside as well as the sea.
