Ciudad Quesada, Fortuna and Lake Arenal

Leaving the fertile soils of the Central Highlands where coffee is king, the roads passing through San Ramón or Zarcero quickly descend to the northern lowlands where citrus groves and ranching dominate. Small towns along the way can make an interesting stopover for a few hours, or maybe overnight. Fortuna, basking in the igneous glow of Arenal volcano and the vast waters of the lake, offers a wide range of excursions and activities for the adventurous.
