North to Liberia

Riding the Pacific slope down from the Central Highlands north to Nicaragua is a fair old drop. You may just notice the small patchy stretch which locals claim covers cracks from tectonic activity, but beyond that it's a pretty uneventful journey. From the lowlands the road is bland, but on either side there are national parks - in particular Palo Verde and Lomas Barbudal - heaving with animals and birdlife. Make sure you drop in and visit one or two on your way north.
