Getting around

Transport within Costa Rica is simple and straightforward by air or road, whether in a private or rented vehicle or on public buses. In an ideal world, judicious use of hotel-provided transport to get to out-of-the-way places like Tortuguero or Corcovado National Park, combined with a rented vehicle, provide the freedom to explore a bit of the country going at your own pace.

If public buses are more your style, there is an efficient and generally effective network of buses to get you to all major destinations and most smaller towns. You may find that occasionally you have to go via one town to make a connection, but the extra time taken is rarely excessive.
