Cayman Islands
These
three low-lying little islands south of Cuba are green with pine and
mangroves. Seven Mile Beach along the west side of Grand Cayman
provides a welcome break for workers in the offshore financial centre.
Nature conservation is top priority here, both on land and under water
and there are a number of sanctuaries in the ponds and wetlands. The
sister islands of Cayman Brac and Little Cayman are quiet, unhurried
places where you can escape the crowds and relax without giving up your
creature comforts. A dive destination ranked among the world's best,
the islands offer a variety of thrilling dive sites. Famous for their
underwater scenery, there are tropical fish of all kinds in the waters
surrounding the islands, especially in the coral reefs, and green
turtles are now increasing in numbers, having been deliberately
restocked by excess hatchings at the Cayman Turtle Farm.
