From Florianópolis, the BR-282 heads west to Lages. About 12 km along are the hot springs at Caldas da Imperatriz (41°C) and Águas Mornas (39°C). The latter are open to the public Monday to Friday morning only. Both have good spa hotels.
Lages and aroundThe area around Lages is particularly good for 'rural tourism', with lots of opportunities for hiking, horse riding, river bathing and working on a farm. The weather can get really cold in winter and even the waterfalls have been known to freeze. Many of the local

are open for visitors and offer accommodation. This is
