Ilha de Boipeba in Brazil
Ilha de Boipeba, a few hours south of Morro, is a similar but far quieter island and with less infrastructure. Accommodation is grouped in three places: the little town on the banks of the Rio do Inferno where the ferry arrives; the adjacent beach, Boca da Barra, which is more idyllic; and the fishing village of Moreré, a 30-minute boat ride to the south (only possible at high tide). With just a few simple restaurants and a football field on the beach overlooking a beautiful turquoise bay, life here is tranquil even by Bahian standards. Expect to pay at least US$30 for a boat to Moreré. Walking along the beaches will take about two hours. Have your camera at the ready, bring sunscreen and go at low tide as there is a river to ford.
Ins and outsBoat trips leave daily from Morro de São Paulo; book through a travel agent or your hotel. Tractors and 4WDs leave from Morro's second beach every morning.
