Ins and outs
Park information
The park is open daily, apart from Monday mornings, from 0800-1700 in winter, and 0800-1800 in summer. At the entrance to the park there's a smart modern visitors centre, with toilets, an ATM, a small café and a large souvenir shop, but little information on the park or wildlife.
Wildlife
Most frequently encountered are the little and red brocket deer, South American coati, white-eared opossum and brown capuchin monkey. Much harder to see are the jaguar, ocelot, puma, white-lipped peccary, bush dog and southern river otter. The endangered tegu lizard can also been seen. Over 100 species of butterfly have been identified, among them the electric blue morphoand the poisonous red and black heliconius, and the bird life is especially rewarding for the birdwatcher. Five members of the toucan family can be seen including toco and red-breasted toucans.
Trails
The 1.2-km paved walk from Hotel Tropical das Cataratasto the falls is an easy walk, taking you high above the Río Iguazú, giving splendid views of all the falls on the Argentine side from a series of galleries. At the end of the path, you can walk down to a viewing point almost right under the powerfulFloriano Falls, a dramatic view, since you're in the middle of the river. A catwalk at the foot of the Floriano Falls goes almost to the middle of the river to give a good view of the Garganta del Diablo. From here, there are 150 steps up to the Porto Canoas complex, a quick and easy walk, but for those who find stairs difficult, you can return the way you came, and walk a little further along the road.
