Tupungato

Tupungato is a quiet little town. Nearby are the stunningly wild mountain landscapes of Tupungato Provincial Park, named after the imposing peak of its volcano, 6600 m, and inaccessible to the public unless you go with an approved guide . There are also superb wild landscapes on the upper Río de Las Tunas.

There are many vineyards around Tupungato; one of the most famous is Bodega Salentein www.bodegasalentein.com, whose fine wines you may have noticed in many restaurants. With a beautiful setting against the foothills of the Andes, the bodega produces some of the country's finest wine (the Malbec is exquisite).

A much newer winery also worth visiting is the Spanish-owned O Fournier  www.ofournier.com. Its output is dedicated mainly to Tempranillo grapes, and here you can admire both the vines and the avant-garde architecture of the winery building, which is strictly functional and state of the art.
