Walks around Bariloche

There are many superb walks in this area, and there's not space here to do justice either to their descriptions or to detailed instructions. For all walks, contact Club Andino Bariloche who sell the excellent Carta de Refugios, Senderos y Picadasmaps for Bariloche and the book Infotrekking de la Patagonia, which gives great detail on all the possible walks, times, distances and refugioswhere you can stay, with satellite-based maps to guide you. Ask the Club Andino Bariloche to check paths are open before you set off: crucial in spring when snow may not have cleared the upper slopes. You could also consider contacting a trekking company such as Active Patagonia www.active patagonia.com.ar, to take you on guided hikes rather than setting off alone. In summer tábanos(horseflies) are common on the lake shores and at lower altitudes; their bites are very annoying but not harmful, and the only solution is to climb higher.
