Air

There are plenty of internal flights from Buenos Aires to all over Argentina with two airlines: Aerolíneas Argentinas and Lan Chile. There are some flights between cities without having to return to Buenos Aires, such as Córdoba and Salta, El Calafate and Ushuaia - more in high season.

All internal flights are fully booked way in advance for travel in December and January, Easter, and in July. Flights to El Calafate, Ushuaia, Bariloche and Puerto Iguazú are particularly heavily booked, and if travelling during these periods, consider booking at least your first internal flight before you leave home. Outside busy periods, it's usually possible to book internal flights with just a few days' notice, though note that flights to Ushuaia are always heavily booked. It's wise to leave some flexibility in your schedule to allow for bad weather, which may delay flights in the south, at El Calafate and Ushuaia. Meals are rarely served on internal flights, though you'll get a hot drink and a cake. Don't lose your baggage ticket; you won't be able to collect your bags without it.

Airpasses

Airpasses allow you to pre-book between three to six internal flights at a discount, as long as your transatlantic flight is also with that company. Airpasses are no longer the cheapest way of getting around, and can be very restricting since you have to book all dates when you book your international ticket. You'll probably find it easier to book internal flights separately. But check with the airlines directly, in case they have a promotion: LAN, www.lan.com; Aerolíneas Argentinas, www.aerolineas.com.
