Student travellers

If you're in full-time education, you're entitled to an International Student Identity Card (ISIC), www.isic.org, available from student travel offices and agencies. This gives you special prices on transport, cultural events

and a variety of other concessions and services.

All student cards must carry a photograph. Some hostel chains also give ISIC card discounts. The 2 big hostel chains are:

Helpful Argentine Youth and Student Travel Organization, which runs a Student Flight Centre (and 5 other branches in BA: Belgrano, Montserrat, Palermo, Recoleta, Caballito), www.asatej.net. Sells flights, including cheap 1-way flights (long waiting lists), hires cars and arranges accommodation, and group and individual tours to places in Argentina. Information for all South America, noticeboard for travellers, ISIC cards sold (giving extensive discounts; Argentine ISIC guide available here), English and French spoken. They are cheap and a good way to make friends. Also runs

Friendly English, European and American staff offer really knowledgeable advice and it's a comfortable gathering place for travellers. Events and Spanish conversation classes held weekly. Highly recommended.
