Mataderos

On the western edge of the city in an area where historically cattle were slaughtered, there is now a popular market, the Feria de Mataderos, www.feriademataderos.com.ar. Take SubteE to the end of the line and then a taxi, or if there's a group of you, take buses. It's a long way out of the centre (about two hours by bus), but worth it to see this fair of Argentine handicrafts and traditional artwork, with music and dance festivals, demonstrations of gaucho horsemanship skills, typical regional food, and games such as pato, a game played on horseback, originally with a duck, and carrera de sortijaswhere players on horseback have to spear a ring on a string with their lance. Nearby is the Museo de los Corrales.
