Packed with travel essentials and information on all the top sights as well as places to eat and sleep, Footprint’s guides are the ideal travel companion. With contact details, opening times and prices, as well as an insight to all the must see places, it’s like having your own private tour guide.
The app highlights are geocoded allowing users to locate and select sights based on their promximity to them.
All features of the guides work offline as well as online – so no unpleasant roaming costs.

Where do I get my app?
Is the Footprint app just a copy of the guidebook?
Our books set out to provide independent travellers with all the information they need to make the most of their trips, and our mobile guides are designed to do the same: the way in which they do it however is very different.
The content within our apps is structured into categories (incl highlights, culture and sights, accommodation, eating etc) and allows users to sort by different filters (ie types of accommodation, eateries, reviews etc). The app includes website addresses and telephone numbers where available allowing users to contact businesses directly as required. The highlights section of the app is geocoded and as such provides location based information (distance to, directions to etc) to users.
How can I see which Footprint guides are available on my iPhone and how do I download them?
Select the “i” icon in the top left hand corner of any of our guides and then search for the location you are after. Alternatively, select “search” option from the bottom menu of your Footprint app – this will provide you with a listing of all available guides. Remember we are adding new guides all the time so keep an eye on the guides being added. If you want to know when specific guides will be available, you can email us at iphoneapp@footprintbooks.com
What is the online/offline button for?
The Footprint app can be used in either online or offline mode. The offline mode simply ensures that no data is transmitted over your mobile network (avoiding roaming charges!). The app automatically detects whether an internet connection is available through 2G, 3G or WiFi networks. If a connection is available, the button will indicate an online status, otherwise your app will show as offline.
What does the “I like it” button do?
The “I like it” button allows you to vote for a specific location you have been to and liked. By clicking the button you automatically add this location to your favourites. We’d also love you to leave a review – a few sentences on why you think the location is worth a visit. By combining your views with those of our expert authors and other travellers, we can further help people decide what to see and what to miss!
Who are tripwolf and why do I need to register with them to access my app?
Tripwolf are a fabulous travel social networking portal and we worked closely with them in the development of our iPhone apps. You don’t need to register with them to use the Footprint app (simply select “guest mode” on the start screen), but registering will allow you to write reviews, upload pictures and vote for your favourite destinations, as well as receiving reviews from other travellers.
