Charlie Devereux
Charlie Devereux was born and lived in Panama until he was nine. Worried their son was developing too much of a taste for beach life, his British parents forcibly removed him from the country in 1984 (though there was also the matter of General Noriega and an impending US invasion). In the UK he worked variously as a photographer, photographer’s agent and in publishing before deciding that journalism was his true calling. His Latin roots have drawn him back to the continent on several occasions and in 2008 he swapped the traffic fumes of London for the traffic fumes of Caracas, where he makes a living as a journalist.
