Belgium obtained its independence in 1830 and is a small region, but jam-packed with history. It was the sight of major battles in the history of Europe, such as the famous defeat of Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo. This illustrious past has made Belgium culturally mixed, and it now has three official languages. The capital city of Brussels has been slowly making its way to one of Europe’s top attractions, and its art, food, and nightlife are not to miss. Make sure to hit the other major cities of Bruges, Antwerp and Ghent while you’re there!
