The city's main attraction, particularly for Asian tourists, is its shopping. For air-conditioned malls head to Orchard Road, while the more aromatic market bargaining experience can be found at stalls in Little India, Chinatown and Arab Street. The city state's colonial core stretches from the world-famous Raffles Hotel to stately government and court buildings near the river. The river itself is lined with restaurants, bars and leafy walkways. For fun day trips, head west of the city for Jurong Bird Park and Japanese gardens and north to the zoo and the night safari. South of the centre, Sentosa Island is linked to the mainland by a cable car and offers beaches, an oceanarium, a fun park, musical fountain and Southeast Asia's first luge ride.
