West coast Lombok

Most visitors to Lombok stay either at Senggigi beach or on the 'Gilis'. Senggigi Beach stretches over 8 km from Batulayar to Mangsit. The road from Mataram to Bangsal winds through impressive tropical forest in the foothills of Mount Rinjani. Travelling further north along the coast from Mangsit, the road reaches Bangsal, the 'port' for boats to the Gilis. Senggigi is the most developed tourist area on Lombok, with a range of hotels. The beaches here - and they extend over several kilometres - are picturesque and the backdrop of mountains and fabulous sunsets adds to the ambience.

The Gili Islands are becoming increasingly expensive and are no longer primarily geared to backpackers. There are no vehicles and there really isn't much more to do beyond sunbathing, swimming, snorkelling, walking and generally relaxing.
