South Bali

Most visitors to Bali stay in one of the resorts at the south end of the island. Most famous is Kuta, the original backpackers' haven, together with its northern extension, Legian; both of these are fairly noisy, crowded, downmarket resorts. Much nicer is Seminyak, further north, which is still relatively rural. To the south of Kuta is Tuban, a town with many hotels and restaurants. Sanur is on Bali's east coast and offers largely mid-range accommodation, though some newer budget places to stay have opened. Serangan, or Turtle Island, is a short distance offshore.
