Nainital and around

Kumaon's hill stations offer access to some relatively unexplored sections of the Himalaya. Nainital itself is a congested Indian holiday town set around a steadily diminishing lake, albeit in the midst of some excellent birdwatching territory. Further northeast, the lush hillsides around Almora have inspired some of India's greatest mystics, and now provide a venue for some interesting projects in sustainable tourism.
