Western Madhya Pradesh

The pearl of western Madhya Pradesh is Mandu, an abandoned citadel littered with empty palaces, gazing out over the Narmada River plains from the top of a craggy plateau. Temple ghats line the Narmada banks in the holy towns of Omkareshwar and Maheshwar, while Ujjain, further north on the river Shipra, is one of Hinduism's seven holiest cities, and a venue of the Maha Kumbh Mela.
