Entertainment

Despite an economic boom in cities like and Bengaluru (Bangalore), Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai and the rapid growth of a young business class, India's nightlife remains meagre and is mainly focused on discos in the biggest hotels. In Goa, beach trance parties usually take place in makeshift venues and continue to attract large groups of young foreigners particularly during Christmas and New Year. However, the government has threatened to close down these venues and has imposed a 2200 music curfew, so now there are more day parties. More traditional, popular entertainment is widespread across Indian villages in the form of folk drama, dance and music, each region having its own styles, and open-air village performance are common. The hugely popular local film industry comes largely out of this tradition. It's always easy to find a cinema, but prepare for a long sitting with a standard story line and set of characters and lots of action.
