Northeastern Andhra Pradesh

From Rajahmundry the NH5 travels north over the narrowing coastal plain, the beautiful hills of the Eastern Ghats rising sharply inland. The pattern of life here contrasts sharply with that further south. Higher rainfall and a longer wet season, alongside the greater fertility of the alluvial soils, contribute to an air of prosperity; they also mean you should check weather forecasts before setting out on a journey. Village houses, with their thatched roofed cottages and white painted walls, are quite different and distinctive, as are the bullock carts.
