Ins and outs of Namib-Naukluft park in Namibia

Getting there

There are several approaches to the Namib-Naukluft Park, and where you enter it rather depends on where you have come from. From Windhoek, Swakopmund or Walvis Bay, the options are to drive between the capital and the coast through the top of the park on either the C28 or C14. These routes are described on page . The most popular access to the park is at Sesriem and Sossusvlei further south, which can be accessed from Windhoek in a day or alternatively from anywhere along the C14 as it heads south through Maltahöhe and Helmeringhausen.

Getting around

Most roads in the park are gravel, though normally navigable in a 2WD. The exceptions are the roads around Groot Tinkas and Gemsbokwater campsites, which require a 4WD. Permits are not necessary for visitors travelling on the public roads through the park (the C14, C26, D1982 and D1998). However, those planning to travel on any of the signposted tourist roads, or stay at any of the campsites here, must obtain permits which are available at all the gates, or from the
offices in Swakopmund and Windhoek. You can also make reservations for all the campsites through
Namibia Wildlife Resorts
at their offices in Windhoek and Swakopmund or through the website
