Isiolo to Moyale

Travelling north on the Trans-East-African Highway from Isiolo the A2 heads north through very dry country to Marsabit and beyond to Moyale on the Ethiopian border. From Isiolo all the way through to Moyale, vehicles travel in an armed convoy, which departs in the morning from the police post 3 km to the north of Isiolo. The next fuel is at Marsabit, 277 km away. In Isiolo and at a couple of police barriers along the way, you have to sign a log book which records all traffic moving on the road. This is a government policy to reduce gun trafficking and cattle rustling, but also a good safety net in that, should your vehicle not have reached the next village before nightfall, a search party could be sent out. There is no public transport, so without your own vehicle the only option is to hitch a ride on a truck.
