Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg might not cause the biggest blips on family-holiday-planning radars, but threes more to this diminutive trio than chocolate, windmills and a dismal reputation in the Eurovision Song Contest. They tend to be the kinds of places you drive through on the way to your family holiday, but linger in Luxembourg, for example, and you will discover some beautiful countryside and one of Europe’s most spectacularly situated capitals. Belgium and the Netherlands, on the other hand, not only share a long stretch of sandy coastline but possess a liberal scattering of theme parks, cycling routes and other family attractions. Amsterdam emerges as the regions most child-friendly city with its green light district of museums, parks and canals.
