Central Spain

Central Spain may be a long way from the beach, but there is still enough in this region to keep children happy on holiday. At first glance, Madrid’s reputation for fine art doesn’t exactly make it an easy sell to kids. If you’re desperate to see the capitals famous Prado, Thyssen or Reina Sofia galleries, you’ll need to dangle a pretty tempting carrot under your children’s noses preferably in the form of the Warner Bros Park south of the city. Once you’ve seen some of Madrid’s traditional (and not so traditional) highlights head west to Extremadura, an unspoilt region with fascinating birdlife and history (but alas, still no Costas).
