Slovenia

Small, but perfectly formed, Slovenia is a medley of dramatic alpine peaks, beguiling lakes and bear-filled forests tucked away at the top of the Adriatic. It is often hailed as one of Europe’s last genuinely unspoilt destinations. But if that translates in your mind as wild and uninviting, then think again. Slovenia is not only emerging as prime adventure territory, but its compact size, extraordinary diversity and well-established infrastructure makes it ideal for family holidays. With its modest 46-km coastline, there’s not much in the way of sun-soaked beaches, but at least you can paddle your toes in the Adriatic at the lovely old town of Piran.
