The Carpathian Mountains sweep through Romania in a broad swathe of densely forested peaks, peppered with small villages and farming communities, while the River Danube scrawls a lazy outline along the country’s southern border. Rural Romania feels remote and unspoilt locals will tell you the country has more bears than British Columbia. But despite this image of tranquil wilderness, there’s always something gnawing away at your mind or rather your neck when you contemplate Romania. Just the mere mention of the words Dracula’s castle will have your kids more riveted than any amount of spiel about the adventure, wildlife and cultural highlights in this land of Transylvanian vampires!
