The West of Ireland is by far the most ‘Irish’ region on the island with the culture colourful and the welcome warm. The emphasis is definitely on the craic to be had, and the locals are only too keen to introduce visitors to some, or all, of their favourite pastimes; music, song, dance and horseracing! It’s also an area fond of its festivals.  There are numerous held throughout the year that should appeal to all members of the family. They range from the Galway Early Music Festival in May through to the International Arts Festival for Children in October, with dozens of others in between. Visiting the West also provides a great opportunity for children to hear the Irish language being spoken first hand. Galway is often referred to as the Bilingual Capital of Ireland because the Galway Gaeltacht (Irish speaking area) is on its doorstep - Céad Mile Fáilte! (One Hundred Thousand Welcomes!)
