Mediterranean Coast

With the Taurus Mountains rearing behind this stretch of coastline, adventure addicts can take to the hills in search of hiking and rafting opportunities. Beach-lovers, meanwhile, will find no shortage of long sandy bays and warm, sheltered sea.  Crowned by a vaulted walkway, the magnificent Roman theatre at Aspendos is so well preserved that it’s still used for opera, ballet and folk concerts during June and July. Perge, meanwhile, showcases more 2nd-century remains, including a stadium measuring 234 m by 34 m that could hold 12,000 spectators. Statues found at the site are on display at Antalya Archaeological Museum. Frothing and sloshing its way through a canyon in the Taurus Mountains, the Köprülü River is a popular rafting destination between May and October (minimum age eight). For something drier (but no less bouncy) book a 4WD safari into the mountains with any of the tour operators at Antalya, Side and Alanya.
