Wales is a little beauty – squat, rugged, full of character and brilliant round the edges, just like a Welsh rugby scrum half. ‘An area the size of Wales’ is often banded around when comparing anything from US national parks to rainforest deforestation, but take a closer look at this 20,779-sq-km country and you will find plenty to shout about in its own right. Not only is Wales king of Britain’s castles, but it also has some of the finest and cleanest beaches, great surf, wildlife-rich islands and rugged mountains – all in an area roughly the size of Massachusetts.
